The countdown is on for this year's annual Independence Day Festival, set for Friday, July 1 at Franklin County High School.

The festival, sponsored by the Rocky Mount Rotary Club, will again include plenty of food, music, games for children and, of course, fireworks.

This year, the Hollow Springs Band headlines the entertainment. The Callaway-based band features James Seay and his three children, Rebekah,14, Alison, 13, and Evan, 11.

The band has built a huge repertoire of music, including two songs written by Seay, who said the the band's selections include country, bluegrass, rock, folk and even several classical selections.

"We all like doing the old country -- you know, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Jeanne Pruett," he said.

Ross Flora of Boones Mill will also perform with The Kings, a Roanoke-based band.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with the fireworks show set for just after dark.

The festival, which is a free event, is a fundraiser for the Rotary club with all proceeds from raffle ticket sales this year going to the United Way of Franklin County.

Club members are selling $100 tickets for a chance to win cash prizes of $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000. Also, $1 tickets are being sold for several prizes.
