Football Contest debuts today

The Franklin News-Post Football Contest makes its 2012 debut in today's newspaper.

Contestants are asked to pick the winners of the nine games listed and the winner and total score of the game marked "tiebreaker.'

The first week's games will be played on Friday, Saturday, Monday nights, Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 3.

Ballots for the contest are on Page 5.

Those entering are asked to submit their ballots by 5 p.m. Friday at the News-Post office on 310 South Main Street. If entering by mail, the ballots must be postmarked on or by Friday's date (Aug. 31).

The Football Contest will appear in the Monday editions of the News-Post.

Thus, for the remained of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season, entry ballots for the News-Post Racing Contest will appear in the Wednesday editions.


Football season tickets are on sale at FCHS

Franklin County football season tickets are on sale at the high school.

A five-game season ticket package can be purchased for $35.

The Eagles will host Woodbridge (Aug. 31), Magna Vista (Sept. 14), Christiansburg (Sept. 28) and Western Valley District rivals William Fleming (Oct. 5) and Patrick Henry (Oct. 26).

Any postseason games that FCHS may host are not part of the season tickets package.

Also, athletic passes are on sale for the 2012-13 school year.

These passes will allow the holder(s) entrance into all fall, winter and spring regular-season home games.

Prices are four passes for $175, two passes for $125 and one pass for $75.

Football Club is selling car raffle tickets

Franklin County Football Club is selling tickets on a drawing for a 2007 Mazda 3s HB Grand Touring.

Tickets are $20 and taxes and tags are included.

The car is automatic transmission and features leather interior, power windows and locks, sunroof, heated seats and Bose sound system.

The drawing will be held at halftime of FCHS's Homecoming football game against Western Valley District rival Patrick Henry on Friday, Oct. 26.

'Pumpkin ball' to aid Glade Hill VFD is slated

A "pumpkin ball" softball tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 at Glade Hill Elementary School as a fundraiser for the Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Lt. Chris Hambrick said teams are being sought to play in the tournament.

The entry fee is $150 per team. The tournament format is double elimination.

Deadline for teams to register is Wednesday, Sept. 5.
