A Glade Hill woman was charged with discharging a firearm inside an occupied residence after allegedly firing a handgun at a man Wednesday morning.
Mary Ellen Blankenship, 49, is also charged with brandishing a firearm, according to Lt. Justin Sigmon with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
A man called the sheriff's office about 7:12 a.m. after his neighbor ran to his house and said someone was shooting at him, Sigmon said.
When deputies arrived, they learned that several people were inside the residence beside the old Kwick Kitchen on Old Franklin Turnpike, including a woman with a gun, Sigmon said.
Once deputies made contact with the woman, she surrendered and they began an investigation, Sigmon said. Investigators determined that a verbal altercation had escalated and that one shot had been fired inside the residence.
During the course of the investigation, deputies also discovered evidence of a suspected methamphetamine lab on the property, Sigmon said. The investigators cleared the house, obtained a search warrant and eventually seized evidence at the scene.
The drug investigation is ongoing, Sigmon said. No one had been charged at press time Thursday.
Blankenship was granted a $5,000 bond Thursday morning but was still in custody at press time.
