Banners are in place, booths assigned, tents raised as participating companies anticipate the Smith Mountain Lake Business Expo today (Friday, April 26).

This year's 10th annual event will take place under big-top tents in the parking lot by the gazebo in Downtown Moneta on Route 122.

Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce members who have been a part of the Expo say the one-day event gives them valuable exposure to residents of the region, as well as other businesses with which they can network.

Over 120 businesses are representing Bedford, Franklin, Pittsylvania and other counties.

Free to the public, the Business Expo will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

This year's attendance is expected to exceed the crowd of more than 1,500 last year.

For the third year, the chamber, which sponsors the Expo, will be providing a "Business Connection" booth.  The goal is to help chamber members with the process of hiring personnel, posting jobs and providing valuable business start-up information, along with materials and small business assistance.

Representatives from the Virginia Employment Commission, Small Business Development Center, Longwood and SCORE Roanoke will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.

On Saturday, April 27 from noon to 6 p.m., Rockin' Brews & BBQs will also be held in Downtown Moneta on Route 122.

A variety of barbecue styles will be served, including North Carolina, Kansas City and everything in between. The event will also feature live music by Tim Martin and Ministers of Soul.

Activities include Dave's Moon Walk for kids and an obstacle course for bigger kids.

The $5 admission includes two tickets that can be used toward food, beverages and kid's activities. The admission tickets can also be used for tasting one of the several craft beers available for purchase. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

For more information about the Business Expo and Rockin Brews & BBQ's, call the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce at 540-721-1203 or visit www.visitsmithmountainlake.com for full details.
