Post 6 Juniors game is postponed
Rocky Mount Post 6's District 9 American Legion Juniors baseball game against Madison Heights Post 274 scheduled for tonight at W.W. Naff Jr. Field has been postponed.
No make-up date has been set.
Post 6 (1-0) is scheduled to resume its season Tuesday, June 18 against Roanoke Post 3.
Game time is 5 p.m. at Kiwanis Field in Salem.
Girls' hoops camp begins Monday at FCHS
The annual Franklin County girls' basketball camp begins Monday, June 17 and runs through Thursday, June 20.
Nightly sessions are from 6 to 8:30.
Because of construction in Samuel M. Hawkins-Central Gymnasium, campers will meet in the Harold Ramsey Hall Gymnasium on Monday.
Camp is for girls in kindergarten through eighth grade.
There is no cost to register, however, camp t-shirts are $10 and payment must be made at the time of registration.
Enrollment is limited to 100 participants.
Campers will be grouped according to age and ability to insure their best camp experience.
Instructors include members of the the FCHS girls' basketball coaching staff and current and former FCHS players.

Rising Star volleyball camp begins June 24
The annual Franklin County Rising Star volleyball camp is scheduled for Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27 at Franklin County High School.
Daily sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon in the Harold Ramsey Hall Gymnasium.
Camp is for rising fifth through rising ninth graders.
Cost is $75.
Cost includes a camp t-shirt, pizza party and prizes awarded from camp competitions.

Dates for summer junior golf camp are set
WESTLAKE -- The Westlake Golf and Country Club is accepting registrations for its summer junior golf camp.
Two sessions are available: June 17 through June 21 or July 15 through July 19.
Daily classes are from 9 a.m. to noon.
Each session is limited to the first 20 students to register.
Entry fee is $125.
Fee includes 15 hours of professional golf instruction, camp goody bag and pass to camp picnic and pool party.

SML Paddleboard race to be held June 29
MONETA -- The second annual Smith Mountain Lake Stand Up Paddleboard race is set for Saturday, June 29 at the Smith Mountain Lake Community Park.
The event is sponsored and staged by the Franklin County Department of Parks and Recreation.
The three-mile race begins at 9:30 a.m.
Race check-in is from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and a pre-race meeting is slated for 9:15 a.m.
Awards will be presented at noon.
All participants are required to wear lifejackets during the competition.
From 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., paddleboarding demonstrations will be conducted by vendors for the benefit of those who have never tried this activity.
Race entry fee is $15.
Pre-registrations is required to guarantee is performance shirt.

Archery safety, shooting class is set for July 13
WIRTZ -- An archery safety and shooting class is slated for Saturday, July 13 at the Blackwater Bowhunters, Inc. range in Wirtz.
The class is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There is limited space, thus pre-registration is required.
Cost is $5 per person, which is due at the beginning of the class. Lunch is included in the cost.
The class is for all ages.
If one is younger than 18, he or she must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Students can bring their own equipment, but the club does have some that students can use during the class.
Field points only. No broadheads.

Ferrum to host girls' lacrosse camp in July
FERRUM -- The Ferrum Girls' Lacrosse Camp will be held on the Ferrum College campus Monday through Thursday, July 15-18.
Panthers women's lacrosse coach Karen Harvey is the camp director and assisting her will be current Ferrum players.
The camp is for girls ages 7 to 17.
Campers will be grouped according to age, grade and ability.
Cost is $175 and includes t-shirt and lunch in the Ferrum dining hall.

Ferrum to host soccer camps in July
FERRUM -- The Ferrum Soccer Camp will be held on the Ferrum College campus for two weeks during the summer.
An overnight camp will be held July 14-17 and is for middle school and high school girls.
Cost is $360.
A day camp will be held July 22-25 and is for boys and girls ages 7 to 16.
Cost is $160.
Panthers women's soccer coach Liesl Narrow is the camp director and assisting her will be current Ferrum players.

Summer workouts are posted for runners
Student-athletes who are interested in competing in boys' and girls' cross country for Franklin County this fall should log on to the team's website: fcxcyouknow.com.
A summer, off-season running schedule has been posted on this site.
Student-athletes who plan on participating in cross country must have a Virginia High School League (VHSL) physical form dated after May 1 of this year on file in the high school athletic department.
