A Rocky Mount man will serve seven months of a 20-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to illegal drug distribution, drug possession and child neglect Tuesday in Franklin County Circuit Court.
Robert Lee Hamlin, 35, was sentenced to five years for marijuana distribution, five years for child neglect and 10 years for possession of cocaine.
In addition to the seven months Hamlin will serve, he was sentenced to probation (time to be determined by probation and parole office) and ordered to be of good behavior for 20 years.
Two felony charges, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, were dismissed through a plea agreement.
After investigators with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office arranged a controlled purchase of one pound of marijuana at Hamlin's residence on Sherman Lane in Sydnorsville on March 2, Investigator S.E. Richardson obtained a search warrant for the residence, according to prosecutor Dwight Rudd.
Investigators seized one-half pound of plant material, $2,000 in U.S. currency, one-half gram of crack cocaine and a 9 mm handgun, along with drug paraphernalia.
Hamlin was charged with felony child neglect because a 7-year-old child was inside the residence at the time of the search.
