Seven Henrico County sheriff's deputies held down a mental patient on the floor for 12 minutes while he was shackled and handcuffed, eventually "smothering him to death," a Dinwiddie prosecutor said Wednesday.
A juvenile is charged in an animal cruelty case in Appomattox County involving horses, according to the county's sheriff's office.
Seven Henrico County sheriff’s deputies were charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in last week’s death of a 28-year-old mental health patient from Henrico who apparently was asphyxiated during a struggle with officers while being admitted to Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County.
Danville police said in a news release that the charge was lodged after "the juvenile’s confession earlier this week about suffocating the victim."
