There is a pediatric waiting room in the emergency department of the Crystal Spring Tower, which is nearing completion and is the newest addition to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Carilion Clinic recently launched expanded security measures, including weapons detection units, at the main public entrances to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
All visitors 18 and over also must obtain an identification badge during their visit to the hospital.
The security measures were originally implemented in the hospital's emergency department and took effect for the hospital as a whole April 29.
All bags will be searched upon entry. Prohibited items include firearms, knives, blunt objects and vapes.
