2024 Big Ten Tournament odds, preview and picks: Purdue big favorites to win Big Ten again (+100 or better)
The Big Ten was topped by the team that is third in odds to win March Madness, Purdue. The Boilermakers are one-to-one (+100) to win the Big Ten, making them the obvious threat.
Reigning Wooden Award winner and favorite to repeat, Zach Edey (24.2 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.2 blocks), is the man who makes the engine go. The team also ranks second in 3-point percentage (41.2%) and rebound margin (+11), and only lost three games all year while going undefeated against ranked opponents.
Next on the list of odds to win the Big Ten Tournament is the Illinois Fighting Illini (+300). At 23-8 (14-6), Illinois is ranked 12th in the country and won four of its final five games with the lone loss coming against Purdue. Terrence Shannon Jr.’s 21.6 points per game ranked ninth in Division I for a team that is also excellent on the boards and loves to play at a fast pace.
Behind the two frontrunners is Nebraska (+700), the only other team with odds shorter than +1000. The Cornhuskers held opponents to the ninth-lowest field goal percentage (39.6), already beat Purdue and barely lost to Illinois.
Michigan State (+1000), Wisconsin (+1500) and Northwestern (+1700) are next in line in odds to win the Big Ten Tournament.
MSU lost four of five games to close the season but was competitive in all of them and is one of the most disruptive teams (35th in turnover margin).
Wisconsin was ranked as high as sixth in the nation but went just 3-8 down the stretch. However, all but one of those losses were by single digits, though they’re bad on the boards and don’t shoot well from downtown.
Northwestern finished fourth in the conference ladder and blends ball security with aggressive defense, which is why it ranked 16th in turnover margin.
All other schools are +3500 or longer to win the title.
Big Ten Tournament pick: Purdue (+100 or better)
