A suspect has been arrested in the burglary of Greg Biffle's home, which happened just three weeks after the former NASCAR driver died in a plane crash.
Police in Iredell County, North Carolina, announced the arrest Tuesday of Terrell Williams, 44, of Stone Mountain, Georgia. He faces multiple felony charges, including second-degree burglary, safecracking, money laundering, obtaining property by false pretense, possession of burglary tools, larceny of firearms, larceny and breaking and entering.
Williams was arrested on July 23 in Cobb County, Georgia, where he was being held without bond while awaiting extradition, according to records obtained by USA Today.
"This investigation is nowhere near over," Sheriff Darren Campbell said at a press conference Tuesday, adding that additional charges against Williams are possible. "I do not think this will be the end of this."
Based on information obtained from security camera footage, Campbell said the alleged suspect may not have been working alone.
The investigation includes a white-collar crime component, according to Campbell. Authorities said the Biffle family's personal information was used to change phone numbers, email addresses and passwords in order to access funds in various banking accounts.
The Iredell County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the house in Mooresville, North Carolina, on Jan. 8. When deputies arrived, they found forcible entry had been made and several items missing. Among them were $30,000 in cash, a backpack, guns and memorabilia.
Biffle, 55, along with his wife, Cristina; daughter, Emma; son, Ryder; Dennis Dutton and his son, Jack; and Craig Wadsworth, were killed on Dec. 18 as the private plane they were in crashed on approach at an airport in Statesville, North Carolina.
Named one of NASCAR's 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023, Biffle won 19 times in the NASCAR Cup Series and won season championships in the Craftsman Truck Series (2000) and O'Reilly Auto Parts Series (2002).
