Hotel Roanoke still working toward potential sale

A potential sale of the Hotel Roanoke is still in the works, as the conference center's commission approved Wednesday a sale of the conference center to the hotel entity.
The move will simplify any future sale of the property, said Brian Mann, the executive director of the conference center commission.
"Right now we currently have the hotel and the conference center listed for sale. So what this does is simplify that process so whoever the purchaser may be will just be buying one unified property, without two different owners. It'll just be one owner," Mann said Wednesday. "Both parties agreed that that was the best way to market the building."

Hotel Roanoke, located at Shenandoah Avenue in downtown

It became public in 2025 that Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech Foundation, which owns the hotel, were exploring a sale of the property. The hotel was built by the Norfolk and Western Railway in the 1880s, closed in 1989 and reopened with a conference center in 1995.
The conference center has been owned by the public commission.
The Hotel Roanoke Conference Center Commission met Wednesday and, after a closed session, approved a resolution selling the conference center for $14 million to the hotel.
