Avoiding the statue seems easy and ignores the practical reality that we have serious public relations issues from the statue and the two town officers involved in Capitol riot, and the in-your-face Trump store in Boones Mill. The county has invested millions of its citizens hard-earned dollars in a new business/industrial park, and this sort of carelessness about the perceptions of a historically disadvantaged segment of its citizens pretty much reduces the pool of companies that are willing to try to recruit a labor force into living and working in this county.
I agree with you. But its not that we avoid that issue completely... it wasn't appropriate for the sake of this story.... I assure you we have addressed a number of topics... that didn't necessarily make it into the story... but those conversations are best left private.
