The Franklin County Public Schools is considering the closure of Henry and Burnt Chimney elementary schools later this year and possibly one additional school later in an effort to balance the budget following a $3.7 million reduction in state funding.
Feb. 1, 2024, 5 p.m.: Franklin County Superintendent of Schools Kevin Siers said Thursday he misspoke during Monday's school board meeting on the status of potential school closings, as there are up to three potential school closings envisioned, not five, as reported in the originally posted version of this article. Due to a budgetary crisis, the school division is considering closing Henry and Burnt Chimney Elementary schools next school year.
