For Eileen Filler-Corn, who is forgoing the uncertainty of re-election to the legislature this year apparently for the longer odds of something bigger in 2025, the end started at the beginning.

The House Republican leadership stated they would refuse to confirm any of the over 900 appointments to boards, etc., if the Senate would not take a vote on Andrew Wheeler to be appointed Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources. The Senate Democrats earlier dropped Wheeler's name from the list of the governor's cabinet secretaries, not even taking a vote on his position. A compromise agreement later appeared to have settled the issue.
