The 2024 Olympics begin this week in Paris, and one of the biggest storylines is the United States Women’s National Team looking to prove that last year’s World Cup was an aberration.
Bounced by Sweden in the Round of 16, it was the USWNT’s worst finish at a World Cup, and with new head coach Emma Hayes taking over, they are looking to make a statement at the Olympics.Â

2024 Olympic Women’s Soccer odds: USA, Spain favored to take home goldÂ
Heading into Paris, the U.S. Women’s National Team and the Spanish Women’s National Team are atop the odds board to bring home gold medal honors.
It’s essentially a coin flip between the two sides, with the United States sitting at +175 and Spain at +200 at DraftKings Sportsbook. There’s a steep dropoff behind them, with France at +450 and Japan at +750.Â
The rest of the board is as follows:Â
At a glance, Canada at +1400 is a bit of a shock. While they will be without recently retired star Christine Sinclair, the defending Olympic champs still pack a lot of firepower up front. Zambia is a sneaky high-upside pick to emerge from Group B, with NWSL phenom Barbra Banda leading the charge.Â
Host country France has yet to medal in the Olympics, but face a tall task in Group A alongside Canada, Colombia and New Zealand.Â
The USWNT Team arrives in Paris as the odds-on favorite to bring home gold, but recent results suggest they have some work cut out for them in the Olympics.
In a tune-up match against Costa Rica, the United States failed to score – even after tallying 26 shots and firing 12 on frame. The lack of scoring has been the glaring weakness with the USWNT, and although flush with talent with the likes of Sophia Smith and Naomi Girma, the U.S. women have yet to put it fully together.
That’s a task for new head coach Emma Hayes, who joined the USWNT in 2023. The former Chelsea boss is entrusted with ushering in a new era of the U.S. Women’s National Team and showing the world that the 2023 World Cup disaster was a fluke.
They face a tough group at the outset, with tough matches against Germany and upstart Zambia on the docket.Â
If you're looking for a way to back the Americans outside of picking them to win the gold medal, the other option is taking them to win their group at -300 or better on Caesars.Â
There isn't a ton of value in this wager with the USWNT being favored so heavily, but a result against Germany is probably all the team needs to gain the upper hand, barring something unforseen.Â
Spain may be a tick behind the United States on the odds board, but they’re the stronger and more experienced side. World Cup champions La Roja possess one of the Olympic’s top midfields, with Patri Guijarro and Aitana Bonmati – the former netting two goals to lift club side Barcelona to a 2023 UEFA Champions League win.Â
The United States will pose a tough test for Spain, but they are a top-class side with recent success under their belt.
If you’re looking for a longshot in women’s soccer tournament in Paris, look no further than Zambia. Led by Barbra Banda, the African squad has lethal scoring upside.
Banda is the scoring co-leader in the NWSL, netting 12 goals in 12 games for the Orlando Pride. Zambia will have to somehow find their way out of Group B, but if they reach the knockout stages Banda can be a true difference-maker and the odds will suddenly be extremely valuable.Â
