Virginia Tech basketball notebook: More foes revealed for women, men
Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy and the Hokies will host fellow 2026 NCAA Tournament participant College of Charleston in the upcoming season. Tech will also play in a tournament in Florida.

The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will host UNC Greensboro, Campbell and fellow 2026 NCAA Tournament participant College of Charleston this season.
The Roanoke Times obtained from Virginia Tech last week another batch of contracts for some nonconference men’s and women’s basketball games for the upcoming season. Tech has not yet announced the men's and women's nonconference schedules for the 2026-27 season.
Tech will host The College of Charleston on Dec. 28. Tech will pay The College of Charleston $25,000.
It will be the teams' first meeting since the visiting Hokies won 71-61 in November 2016.
The College of Charleston went 27-6 overall and 16-2 in the CAA last season, when it swept the CAA regular-season and tournament titles. The Cougars lost to Duke in the first round of the NCAAs.
Tech will host UNC Greensboro on Nov. 29. Tech will pay UNC Greensboro $20,000.
It will be the teams' first meeting since Tech won 72-51 at home in November 2023. UNC Greensboro went 14-16 overall and 4-10 in the Southern Conference last season.
Tech will host Campbell on Dec. 13. Tech will pay Campbell $25,000.
It will be the teams' first meeting since Tech won 81-46 at home in December 2024. Campbell went 20-12 overall and 13-5 in the CAA last season.
Virginia Tech announced Thursday that the women's team will play in the Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Florida. Tech will play Tennessee-Martin on Nov. 23 and will meet Alcorn State or 2026 NCAA Tournament participant Michigan State on Nov. 24.
It will be Tech's first meeting with Tennessee-Martin since Tech won 54-49 in November 2021 in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico. Tennessee-Martin went 13-17 overall and 9-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference last season.
If Tech plays Michigan State on Nov. 24, it will be the teams' first meeting since Tech beat the visting Spartans 72-66 in December 2013. Michigan State went 23-9 overall and 11-7 in the Big Ten last season. The Spartans lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Tech has never played Alcorn State. Alcorn State went 17-14 overall and 14-4 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference last season. The team lost in the first round of the WNIT.
As previously reported, the Tech women's schedule also includes home games with James Madison, Appalachian State, La Salle, North Carolina Central and Delaware. As previously announced, Tech will host Tennessee in the ACC-SEC Challenge.
Men to host Mount St. Mary's
The Virginia Tech men will host Mount St. Mary's on Nov. 13.
Tech will pay Mount St. Mary's $90,000.
This will be the teams' first meeting since Tech won 99-34 at home in January 2011.
Former Radford assistant Donny Lind is entering his third season as the Mountaineers' coach. The team went 15-17 overall and 11-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last season.
As previously reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the Tech men will host Atlantic 10 member Richmond this season. The game will be played Nov. 16, according to the contract obtained by The Roanoke Times, and Tech will pay Richmond $50,000.
As previously announced, the Tech men will visit West Virginia on Dec. 5 to kick off a three-game series. The Hokies will host the Mountaineers in the 2027-28 season. The teams will square off in a neutral-site game in Charleston, W.Va., in the 2028-29 season. According to the contract obtained by The Roanoke Times, WVU will not pay Tech for this season's game and Tech will not pay WVU for the following season's game. The teams will split the net revenue 50-50 for the neutral-site game, with the money either going directly to each school or to "a marketing fund designated by (each) institution for the promotion and branding of student-athletes." So Tech and WVU players might get NIL money from the deal.
As previously announced, the Tech men will play Iowa in a neutral-site game at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, on Nov. 10. The contract obtained by The Roanoke Times is with Complete Sports Management, not with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The contract does not state that any money will be paid to Tech, nor does it state that the teams will meet again in the 2027-28 season.
As previously reported, the men's schedule also includes home games with Radford, VMI, Old Dominion, Coppin State and Maryland-Eastern Shore. As previously announced, Tech will host Mississippi in the ACC-SEC Challenge.
Wofford announced last Monday that it will host the Hokies in an Oct. 16 preseason exhibition game. Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young steered Wofford for 17 seasons before taking the Tech job. Kevin Giltner, who was a Wofford player under Young and a Tech assistant under Young, is heading into his second season as the coach of the Terriers.
Women add recruit
Rising high school senior Dani Robinson has announced on Instagram that she has committed to Virginia Tech.
Robinson, a 5-foot-10 guard from Ontario Christian High School in California, is rated the No. 36 player in the country in the high school graduating class of 2027 by ESPN.
She joins guard Lillie Graves in coach Megan Duffy's 2026-27 recruiting class. Graves is rated the No. 55 player in the nation in the high school graduating class of 2027 by ESPN.
