RUSTBURG, VA – Campbell County Department of Social Services (CCDSS) invites the community to come together in support of children and families during Child Abuse Prevention Month this April. This year’s theme, “Every Child Deserves a ‘Fair’ Chance,” will be celebrated with a family-friendly, carnival-inspired awareness event focused on education, prevention and community connection.
The event will take place on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., adjacent to the Department of Social Services building located at 69 Kabler Lane in Rustburg. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Observed annually, Child Abuse Prevention Month highlights the importance of communities working together to strengthen families and prevent child maltreatment. Campbell County Department of Social Services emphasizes that prevention starts with ensuring parents and caregivers have access to the knowledge, skills and resources needed to support their children’s well-being.
“This event serves as an opportunity to engage with our community while supporting our partners and the families we serve,” said Alexis Robinson, Family Services Specialist. “We firmly believe that every child deserves a fair opportunity to grow up healthy and safe.”
Attendees can look forward to a variety of engaging and educational opportunities, including:
Learning how to recognize and report signs of child abuse
Connecting with local agencies and programs, including childcare resources
Entering giveaways and prize drawings for gift cards
Games and activities, including face painting
The pinwheel became the national symbol for child abuse prevention in 2008 through Prevent Child Abuse America, reflecting the organization’s mission to ensure all children in the United States grow up in safe, stable and nurturing environments.
Through events like this, CCDSS continues to promote awareness and encourage individuals and organizations throughout Campbell County to take an active role in protecting children and strengthening families.
